3.      The Challenges and Opportunities of Lay Leadership

Seminar Leader:  Rev. Nathan Kirkpatrick, Managing Director, Leadership Education at Duke Divinity School

This is a great time to serve as a leader in the church!  Sure, the church faces a lot of challenges, but there are many opportunities for great lay-led ministry, too.  In this workshop, we will explore how lay leaders understand their roles and their responsibilities with congregations and how we can respond together to the challenges and opportunities of today’s church.

4.      Ten Touchpoints for Local Church Hospitality

Seminar Leader:  Rev. Bev Coppley, pastor of First UMC in Landis and member of the district’s Congregational Development Team

Come and hear about ten touchpoints for hospitality in the local church.  You will learn how to make invitations, share your faith in winsome ways, and create an environment in which first-time visitors will want to return to your church the following week.

5.      Strengthening Your Sunday Worship

Seminar Leader: Rev. Andy Langford, pastor of Central UMC in Concord and editor of The United Methodist Book of Worship

How do you plan sermons, music, and other aspects of worship to be both hospitable to guests and uplifting to members?  We will share a number of “tips” for moving beyond worship wars to weekly implementation of healing and transforming worship.

6.      No Limits to Missions?

Seminar Leader:  Rev. Judy White, pastor of Trinity UMC in Kannapolis and member of the District Leadership Team

It does not matter what size church you attend, you can be in missions.  From local
